Artistic Statement

As a choreographer my inspiration comes from my day to day encounters. The dancers I choose to perform my movement are both technical and free-flowing. Through dance, I am able to reveal the inner workings of my brain, it’s a way for me to tell a story, express a feeling, ask a question, or bring attention to a social issue. I want dancers who are able to transform my movement into their own and make it genuine. My goal is to highlight hard hitting qualities by combining them with movements that are both light and seamless. I am very interested with both of these extreme qualities. My dancers are a force to be reckoned with, inspiring me everyday. They are what brings meaning and life to each piece. They are the paint to my paintbrush. My movement vocabulary is meant to make you think and is subject to interpretation. I want the audience to question where I am coming from. However, if their interpretation is completely different, there is nothing wrong with that. The best part about art is that it is individualistic; audience members are invited to take the framework and connect their own personal stories to the movement.
